The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam

Bodleian Library
A beautiful new edition of Persian poet Omar Khayyam’s (1048-1131) rubaiyat - 4-line verses – reproducing the sensuous and exotic images from British artist René Bull’s (1872-1942) edition of 1913. Bull was an important figure in Art Nouveau and, strongly influenced by oriental art, reflected a renewed passion for the poem in the period. The poem’s epigrammatic stanzas in Edward Fitzgerald’s translation from 1859 urge readers to seize the day and 'make the most of what we yet may spend'.

Hardback, 112 pages, 29 colour plates, illustrated throughout with illustrations in gold ink.
9 ¾” x 7 ¾”.
