Simnel Cake in Tin

Originating during the Middle Ages, simnel cake was made for the middle Sunday of Lent, when the 40-day fast would be relaxed. During the late 19th century, 11 marzipan balls began to be used as decoration, representing the loyal apostles. Traditional, moist and rich in fruit, the cake has a generous layer of marzipan through the centre and is decorated with 11 marzipan balls.

580g/20.5oz in a smart 6" wide tin.
Contains: almonds, wheat, egg and milk.
Suitable for vegetarians; not suitable for vegans.

Please note use by date end September 2017.
