Kitchen

A collection of bright and breezy ideas for your kitchen inspired by the past 150 years, including trivets, tea towels, ceramics, spoons and trays, both practical and decorative. During the 19th century country homes were often decorated with what is now termed naive art created by itinerant artists who travelled from village to village, farm to farm. This art focused on animal subjects; cattle, dogs or birds with prize winning or show animals being a popular subject matter. Artists would also attend horse races where portraits would often be commissioned of the winning racehorses, sometimes with their rider. Our tea towels reflect the emergence of this British staple in the 19th century when they were generally made from linen and were often used by the lady of the house when caring for her own tea ware to avoid anything being broken by a careless servant. They would be embroidered and considered fine enough to be used to cover food before the ritual of afternoon tea.
