An extinct group of marine invertebrates, ammonites lived in the world's oceans during the Mesozoic era, 252-66 million years ago. A remnant from prehistory, these fossils are used in geological studies to identify specific time periods. The image in the catalogue does not accurately represent the item, The silverwork was 'rustic' at best and the overall impression, notwithsatnding the undoubted effect of the ammonite fossil, was crude.

Geologist recipient appeared very pleased although I thought the mounting a little crude. Long suspension 'chain' allowed necklace to be put on over the head without unfastening catch (A definite plus.for ageing fingers)
