20 Turner & Constable Study Cards

The British Library and The British Museum
Atmospheric studies of British landscape and weather by J. M. W. Turner (1775-1851) and John Constable (1776-1837), now in the collections of the British Museum and British Library; including Turner's watercolours of Weathercote Cave c.1818 and Malham Cove, Yorkshire, c.1810, alongside a study of clouds and trees, probably made at Hampstead in 1821, and Stonehenge, c. 1820-1836 by Constable. Constable is noted as one of the earliest artists to seek to represent atmospheric and weather effects accurately; he stayed near Hampstead for many Summers, studying and making sketches of the skies over London.
